future of online advertising

future of online advertising

Anyone who is trying to drive traffic to their website is going to want to post up ads either on a pay per click basis, through emails or as free ads. These are the three most common way to post up ads. The most common type of ads that are posted as well as emailed is banner ads. These ads used in the three most common ways can drive a great deal of traffic to a website. Not everyone is going to be successful at all three types of ads. This is why it is important to test multiple ads simultaneously to see which one is going to work the best.

The way to do this is to create a couple different and exciting banner ads. Use these banner ads in the three different methods described above. Post them for pay per click, send them out in email promotions and post them on free ad sites. Only post one banner using each method and track the increase for one week. Then post another set using the same three methods. This is going to allow a significant amount of time to test out different banners as well as different methods without flooding your email list with advertisement too often.

Once all of the banners have been used in the three methods, track the amount of clicks that the website has received through these three links. Also, keep track of which ad has had the most success. This is going to allow for anyone to see what is working for the website and which ad is not effective. Then the future ads can be generated according to the most successful type and method.

type of online advertising

type of online advertising

There are many examples of Online Advertising formats and the decision of which ones to choose depends very much on the type of product you want to promote and the kind of message you want to give out. The most popular Online Advertising services include:

  • Contextual ads on search engine results pages
  • Banner adverts as standard leader-board, skyscraper or bespoke sized formats
  • Advertising networks, which includes banners and pay per click targeting
  • E-mail marketing, including the targeted use of opt-in lists or part of an in-house distribution
  • Sponsorships, including logo or message branding on content and PDF pages
  • Directory listings or tailored micro-site pages

Most of the above forms of Online Advertising rely on a certain amount of programming and designing to make the ads run and display in the correct way. There is also no doubt that recent advances in advertising technology has played a major part in the way we react and respond to online business and consumer advertising. However, it seems that technology is moving so fast that even the Online Advertising industry can barely come up with applications and tools that meet those changing technologies. Whichever way you look at it though, one thing remains – even though consumers have a consistent requirement for quick information, they are still making those clicks and filling out request forms online.

If we go back a few years, we’d see that Banner Advertising accounted for over 50% of total Online Advertising revenue. But with the reduction in ad clicks from banner adverts and other traditional online formats, advertisers are now looking for the next big online development that will get people clicking again.

This requirement has fuelled an explosion in the creative development of advertising formats in online media – love them or hate them, they’ll continue to change, will develop into even more sophisticated designs and will be around for a considerable amount of time yet.

So, now that we’ve established that Online Advertising has evolved way beyond the early days of banner advertising and flashing buttons, how do we get the best value from a media that is constantly changing?

Well, what buyers need to do now is to step back, take a deep breath and make sure that they analyse and research all of the available options before testing different formats. Whatever they do, they must not believe the fly-by-night sites that promise you the earth and tell you that you don’t have to put any work into your Online Advertising. Unless you have a never-ending supply of money, you will have to do some work to make anything happen and it is no different with Online Advertising.

If we look at the more recent online products, one of the success stories of Online Advertising has to be pay per click advertising. A number of providers have developed this as a very cost-effective way of getting clicks to your site, for very little money. For the price of a half page advert in a regional newspaper, you can get a few hundred clicks to your website.

There is still a question mark, in terms of the return on investment value to this format, but there is no doubt that it is ticking all the right boxes when it comes to getting people to visit specific landing pages of a website. If this is all you want to do, then PPC is a must.

Of course, Online Advertising isn’t all about advertising on networks and websites. It also covers email and other electronic formats and this is an area that has enjoyed tremendous growth in the last few years. To reach the inboxes of an opt-in subscriber list is a very attractive means of promotion for a lot of advertisers and this method continues to gain popularity. However, as our overall capacity and enthusiasm for flashy graphics dwindles, publishers of HTML email newsletters and online animations are now toning down their designs across many industry sectors.

As far as allocation and Media Buying is concerned, it is known that almost one third of Online Advertising will come from incremental spending, but the majority will still come from traditional marketing budgets. This is a sure sign that Online Advertising is now becoming less of an ad-hoc test media and more of an ongoing fundamental requirement.

With the continuing shift from print to online, there is no doubt that this media will continue to grow as the technology and our desire to keep up with new developments grows with it.

Can a person practice psycho-therapy without a license?

I know about getting an associate degree in psychology from some online place like The University of Phoenix, but that costs 30K, or something — and I’m dubious about the value anyway. I wonder if a person can just advertise in, say the alternative press, see people and charge for services without going through this process, and what the legal risks are. Or is there another fast-track that would be less expensive and provide credentials?

I’m not a lawyer, but I have had a lot of contact with therapists in many states and the laws regarding this appear similar in each state. Yes, you can do psychotherapy without a license or without a degree of any kind. Although there are many books which try to explain exactly what psychotherapy is, it seems like there is a lot of debate about it within the legal system. Even among expert practitioners there is much debate about what they actualy do to achieve results.

I am not slamming my profession – I happen to be a para-professional counselor and group therapist and have worked for many years under the supervision of psychologists or psychiatrists. Quite frankly, many of the best group therapists I have observed did not hold an MD or PhD title. However, there are many fine therapists who do have these degrees. In our current system of treatment MD’s are more involved in the medical and medication needs of the patient, but in some states (not mine) PhD’s can prescribe certain medications. PhD’s and MD’s tend to do most of the formal evaluations and both are responsible for training staff, supervision, treatment planning, psychiatric testing, and performing administrative duties. A majority of direct patient counseling and group therapy conducted in institutional settings falls to para-professional staff. It is simply too costly for everyone to receive intensive daily treatment by somebody who has a doctorate degree. Para professionals may also do a majority of treatment planning (under a doctor’s supervision), and perform evaluation and monitoring of the patient’s progress.

There are strict guidlines for hospitals which provide psychiatric treatment and there is a national governing body (JCAH – Joint Commission for Accredidation of Hospitals) which provides strict review and standards for care and treatment.

As far as alternative approaches to psychiatric treatment are concerned, most states have newly established guidelines for licensing para-professional workers. There are requirements for people who hold bachelor or master degrees who wish to obtain a license, but many states still do not exclude people who want to call themselves “counselors” from practicing counseling without a license.

price of online advertising

Where can I find prices for advertising on online television shows? (ABC.com, CWTV.com, etc)?

I need to find prices for how much it costs to advertise on these sites.

Making a Television Commercial – How Much Does It Cost?

If you ask somebody “What does it cost to make a television commercial?” you probably have heard that producing a single 30-second television commercial costs on average around $400,000. Maybe you heard that making a TV ad costs $250,000. Whatever. It’s a bunch of baloney. Producing a TV commercial doesn’t have to cost an arm and a leg. You can make a good TV commercial for a couple of thousand dollars. Shop around for an affordable advertising firm and you’ll find some really good deals on television ads.

To keep the costs of advertising on television within your budget, you can find stock video footage that can be repurposed for your commercials. Visit http://www.thoughtequity.com, for example, and you’ll see that there’s a growing industry of video clips for sale and they even have gone so far as to let you recycle old television commercials that have been used by other advertisers. Nice!

Another good site to look at is http://www.spotrunner.com/. You can purchase a pre-packaged ad from their ad library for less than $500. Spot Runner rewrites and records custom voice overs for any of its ads for $249. So, for less than $800 you can make a TV commercial!

It’s also a good idea to find a local video production company. Hiring an advertising agency will get you into higher dollar amounts for your TV ads, but a local video production company can do great work at very reasonable prices. We know one travel business in Chicago that gets its commercials done for $300. Of course, their TV commercials are very simple, but it works for them.

Are British businesses being forced to spend more money on advertising/marketing due to UK economic downturn?

Is this a good time to get involved in advertising and marketing? Does every cloud really have a silver lining?

The first thing you learn in Business 101 is that:

‘You need to spend more money to get customers during an economic downswing because there are fewer customers out there and reaching a smaller isolated number is harder then reaching a mass audience’

The amount of businesses that understand that… Very few. Thats why many of them go out of business. They haven’t prepared for what every economy will do which is cycle down. Most businesses think that good times last forever so they fail to plan for when things get tough. Many don’t keep cash reserves on hand to float the company through bad times.

Every time you make a sale a portion of that should go to a fund that covers you for several months of expenditures. While you are paying your bills for 3 months and scaling back for a longer haul your comp is struggling to keep their doors open. When they start closing you need to be in a position to grab their customers which in turn allows you to keep your doors open.

Not advertising and going into lock down mode is nothing but a recipe for disaster.

Even if things begin to get better they aren’t going to go from bad to great over night. It will generally be gradual so a recovery, certainly like the one we are in right now, is not going to change tomorrow.

The business who is proactive and not reactive generally will emerge the winner.

While you are getting customers during hard times they are losing them. When things turn around you will emerge as the real winner here.
